Frye Island in Big Sebago Lake

This green jewel in the center of blue Sebago Lake occupies a special place in our hearts! Krainin Real Estate was opened on Frye Island, for Frye Island, in 1976, and Maggie Krainin served variously as broker, office secretary and general manager through 1981. Over the years we have supported the wide variety of Island social and political development as well as Sales and Rentals, and we are proud to have participated in so much of the Island's history! Take a Virtual Tour of Frye Island.

Today, we are still the leading agency for Frye Island sales and rentals, covering 95% of transactions. We have sold literally hundreds of Island properties over the years -- some of them several times over, as families come and go -- and it isn't uncommon for Islanders to sell one cottage and buy another!. Our Frye Island sales specialists, Don Hadley (now retired), Roger Stenz and Nancy Fournier also make their homes on the Island every summer. Don has spent every summer there since 1968 and Roger since 1975.

For sales information contact Roger Stenz (203.858.1573) or Nancy Fournier (352.446.8888), for rentals see Frye Island Rentals or email the KRE Rental Team for personal assistance.

It's easy to get to Frye Island from our office! The ferry landing is just 5 miles down the Raymond Cape Road, which is off the Hawthorne Road, half a mile west of Krainin Real Estate's Raymond office on Route 302.

If you are interested in visiting Frye Island to view rental or sales properties, please call to make an appointment, so we can make the appropriate arrangements. Thank you!

About Frye Island

Frye Island is a community of approx. 450 homes, open May through October. It lies 1/4 mile off Raymond Cape in the center of Big Sebago, Maine's second-largest lake. As on many islands, the atmosphere is casual and low-key. About 2.5 miles long by 1.5 miles wide, Frye Island is accessed by the "Leisure Lady" and the "Ellie Corliss," twin 65' single-deck car ferries owned and operated by the town. Each ferry holds 9 - 11 cars. The trip takes about 5 minutes, plus a few minutes for loading and unloading. Service is every half hour from early morning to late evening in July and August, reduced somewhat in the off season. Walk-on passengers are permitted, but there is no passenger parking at the ferry landings.

Ferry Landing on Raymond Cape Dock & Dine at the Frye's Leap Cafe

The mainland ferry landing is located at the end of Raymond Cape, about 5 miles off Route 302 in South Casco. Arriving at the landing, you would get on line for the next departure, when the Ferry Crew will direct you to your place on board. Round-trip for one vehicle is $15. Cars with boat trailers require 2 tickets. As the ferry nears the Island, you will see the visitors' boat dock at the Frye's Leap Cafe. Light lunches and Sunday brunch are served all summer on the patio by the lake. Next to the Cafe is the Frye Island General Store, offering pizza and sandwiches and a variety of packaged groceries, beer, wine, ice cream, newspapers and sundries.

Courts at Lancaster Loop Recreation Area Swimming Pool at Lancaster Loop

There are many kinds of recreation available, with 3 sets of double tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool, a 9-hole golf course, and 12 association beaches at various locations around the shoreline. Cottages which are directly on the water also have their own private beaches. A cement boat ramp is conveniently located near the General Store/Ferry Landing.

9-Hole Golf Course A well-equipped Pro Shop & Lounge

The challenging, par-36 course is well kept and rarely crowded. Enjoy your game in beautiful woodland surroundings, then relax at the pro shop with a beverage and a snack. The Island golf membership is active and congenial, and several "theme" tournaments are held over the summer. Carts are available.

Beach #6, "Cocktail Beach" Clubhouse for Activities, Dances, Meetings

At the south end of the Island, 1200' Long Beach offers excellent waterskiing. There is a marina behind Long Beach, and finger slips are available for rent with cottages. There are also tie-ups in the "canal" area on the west side of the island. Gasoline and boat rentals are available at marinas in Raymond, Windham and South Casco.

All the town beaches are available to everyone staying on Frye Island. Mostly sandy, they vary in size from intimate to expansive. West-side beaches offer the magnificent view across Lake Sebago to the distant mountains, including Mount Washington, and sunsets. East-side beaches have a more protected shore, face Raymond Cape and the sunrise, and enjoy sunshine until 1-2 pm. You can wander freely all over the Island, picking berries in season. You may see deer, rabbits, and a variety of birds -- and a few raccoons! The roads are unpaved, and the speed limit is 20 mph. Road maps are available.

Both waterfront and inland rentals are available. Topography will vary, but most cottage locations are wooded and relatively private. Private waterfronts may be sandy or rocky; most have at least one shallow, sandy area for water access, and some have large sandy beaches. If not directly on the water, cottages may be a short walk or drive to the closest beach. Photos of Frye Island Town Beaches

All cottages are fully equipped; furnishings vary with the tastes of the owners. Most are sized for groups of 4-6, a few hold 8 or more. Groups of families vacationing together can sometimes get cottages near each other. Only a few owners accept pets; your pet must be leashed or under your direct control at all times. Most cottages have phones and tv's, but few have washers or dryers (laundromats in Raymond and Windham).

Social activities vary year to year, and include swimming lessons, aerobics, clambakes and games nights. The Island newspaper, FINS, is published every Friday and available at the mainland ferry landing and the office. Non-denominational services are held on Sundays. Off-Island activities include bowling, parasailing, paddleboat trips, miniature golf, antiquing, and a variety of restaurants in nearby Raymond, Naples and North Windham. Outlet shops abound in Freeport and North Conway, each a little over an hour's drive away.

Although only open seasonally, Frye Island is a fully functioning Maine town. The island water supply is from Sebago Lake, chlorinated and tested regularly. Emergency services are by Raymond Rescue and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department; ferry crews are on call 24 hours a day. The town office is upstairs of the General Store; hours are posted. Visit the town web site at www.fryeisland.com. At check-in, renters receive The Krainin Real Estate Vacation Guide, which includes all phone numbers and schedules for Island services.

For more information about the Island, its history, government and services, just contact Krainin Associate Broker Roger Stenz (203.858.1573) or Nancy Fournier (352.446.8888). They are available all summer to show you the current selection of Frye Island Cottages and Lots on the market.
